Prof. Dr. med. Clarissa Prazeres da Costa
is an infectiologist and specialist in medical microbiology and infection epidemiology as well as co-founder and co-director of the Center for Global Health at the Technical University of Munich.
For the past 14 years, she has headed her own research group "Parasite Immunology" as well as the Department of Diagnostic Parasitology and is teaching coordinator of the chair at the Institute of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Hygiene at TUM.
Her scientific focus is on the basic immunological aspects of host-parasite interaction and other Th2 immune diseases, such as allergies, as well as zoonotic and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) especially in relation to mother-child health using molecular methods, experimental models and clinical research in Africa.
Her activities in Global Health currently focus on research in NTDs, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and women's health. She publishes in high impact journals. Her research is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
