Youssef Hamway is a PostDoc with experience in microbiology, having specialized in this field for his PhD studies (also at the TUM MIH) and master’s degree at Imperial College London, where his interest in infectious diseases developed based on a fascination with host-pathogen interactions and how microbes have developed to infect and survive in the human host. Prior to this he had studied biochemistry also at Imperial College London, having been drawn to the molecules and pathways that constitute life as we know it.
With a keen interest in translational science, Youssef now focuses on taking advantage of cutting-edge technologies to develop new tools for diagnosing infectious diseases, particularly neglected tropical diseases. With a current focus on new rapid Schistosoma field diagnostics, as part of a project funded by DZIF.
